Guy C. Mann

Scan_20210517.jpg

Guy C. Mann, Jr. passed away on May 6, 2021 at the age of 102. Beloved husband of the late Eileen(nee Gamble), dear father of Thomas Mann(wife Karol), Richard Mann(wife Pat), James Mann(wife Mary), and Linda Barker (husband Phil-deceased). Loving grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 7.

It is said that anybody can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad. A dad brings strength and stability to a family and a feeling of security to life. How true it was for this man. He always put the care of his family first.

He would use his vacation for family time traveling along Route 66 all the way to Disneyland in California, towing a long trailer that served as our home for six weeks. Many other trips followed over the years across most of the country and Canada. Besides all the wonderful experiences of travel and fun in our back-yard pool, Dad provided the best Christmas’ a child could only dream of.

He served in WWII in the signal corps restoring communications systems.

He was a dedicated employee at Ohio Bell Telephone Company who literally worked his way “up the ladder: starting as a repair lineman and retired as a systems analyst 37 years later. He lived long enough to Claim the prize of being retired longer than he had worked.  If there was a strike called at his job, he would install shutters and make house repairs to supplement his income.

As a volunteer at The Society for the Blind and a devout lifetime church member, he set an example of the importance of values, morals, and self-worth.  No one that met him ever had a bad word to say about him. He was kind, brilliant, genuine, and loved. He always held Mom’s hand and was never afraid to go down into the basement and always whistled the “song of the day.” It has been said that it is a happy soul that whistles.

Thank you, Dad, for your guidance, your solid advice, labors of love and sacrifice.

God Bless You. You will be sorely missed but live on in our hearts and lives.
