Andrew A. Choma

Andrew Anthony Choma passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Born on March 16, 1940 to the late Hermina (nee Szajcz) and Andrew John Choma Jr. Beloved father of Andrea Grmovsek, Audrey Spanjol, and Jeffrey Andrew Choma. Grandfather of Alexandria Mowrey and Sabrina Choma. Great-Grandfather of Stella Mowrey. Half -Brother to Albert Loyd Starnes.

Joseph P. McCauley



On Friday, July 19th, 2024, Joe Patrick McCauley passed away at age seventy-eight in Cleveland, Ohio.

Beloved husband of Belinda McCauley, née Geary. They were together for forty-six years. Loving father to sons Bryan (Allie) and Colin (Allison), both of whom he was extremely proud.

Born to Mary and William McCauley in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland, Joe is preceded in death by sisters Anna and Rita. He is survived by siblings Luke, Noel, Michael, Jim, Mary, and Antoinette; as well as many nieces and nephews in both Ireland and England.

Before coming to the US, Joe worked in the Irish Showband industry as Tour Manager with popular Irish bands including Brendan Bowyer and the Big Eight, as well as Joe Dolan and The Drifters. Joe retired from the City of Cleveland after a thirty year career, serving as an Operations Agent for Cleveland Hopkins Airport. In semi-retirement, he lent his talents and time to American Wire and Cable.

In retirement, Joe and Belinda enjoyed traveling, visiting Las Vegas countless times. The two were also avid cruise goers, visiting Italy, France, and Spain, as well as the Caribbean, Cuba, Mexico, and the Bahamas.


Instead of traditional funeral services, family are gathering for a private celebration of life. The family asks that you follow Joe’s example by taking time to cherish your loved ones and enjoy the precious gift of love, family, and friendship.

Kathleen J. Conroy

Kathleen Jo Conroy (nee Calvey) passed away on July 5, 2024, at the age of 86. She is the daughter of William and Olive (Mattingly) Calvey (deceased) and was born on January 3, 1938. Kathleen was a devote Catholic and a member of The Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) as well as other charismatic prayer groups throughout her life. She spent 25 years working for K&K Portage Market. She was always ready to sing and dance at the drop of a hat. She was artistically gifted and had drawers full of crafting materials for different projects. She touched many people’s lives with many thinking of her as a second Mom and many of their children thinking of her as their other Grandma. She is survived by her children Paul Conroy (Elle), Philip Conroy (Eileen), Andrew Conroy, and David Conroy (Aimee) and her sisters Patricia Dunlap (Jerry), Roberta “Bobby” McDonnell (John deceased), Marylin Voelkerding (Bruce), and Olive Calvey, grand children Brie Schneider, Lily Conroy, Hunter Conroy, Owen Conroy, Ethan Conroy, Alex Conroy, and Jacob Petz, and great-grandchild Apollo Truhlar. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Bill Calvey, Mike Calvey (Lin), and John Calvey (Karen) and her spouse William Conroy. Kimberly Gross

Kimberly A Gross , 58, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 27th 2024.

She was born on December 31st 1965.

Preceded into death by her Mother Sandra, adopted Father Clayton and her brothers James and Andrew.

Leaving behind her sister Dawn, her children Jennifer, Heather (Ashton), Keith (Karilyn), her children's father Kenneth and her grandchildren Heavenly, Anastasia, Layla, Layani, Olivia and Lontae.

Leslie "Les" Darvas

Leslie “Les” Alan Darvas, 88, passed away peacefully on June 24 surrounded by his family. Les was born in Cleveland in 1935. He married his wife, Elaine, in 1962 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage until she passed in 2020.

Les’ life was defined by his love for his family and his devotion to Boy Scout Troop 178, serving as a Scoutmaster for more than half a century. The troop met on Tuesday evenings, where Scouts learned to tie knots and earn merit badges. But Les also shaped their lives, expecting the boys to listen to directions and learn leadership skills as they rose in the ranks. He organized car washes, pancake breakfasts and auctions to support the troop and its periodic tours to Washington, DC. Countless young lives were enriched through participation in Troop 178.

Les taught Sunday school at Christ United Methodist Church, remaining active in church life and offering an occasional sermon as a lay leader. He called square dances at the church and could always be found with a camera around his neck at any special event, vacation trip, or wedding. He helped organize regular reunions for the West Tech High School class of 1953 and was inducted into the West Tech Alumni Hall of Fame. Les spent most of his career with Bronze Headquarters in Cleveland.

Les loved his family, nature, his church and Cleveland baseball, and could fondly recall the starting lineup of the 1948 Cleveland Indians championship team.

Les is survived by his children, Richard Darvas of Cleveland and Lori (Matthew) Roberts of Carmel, IN. He was a beloved Grandpa/Papa to Samuel, Jacob and Robin Darvas and Becca and Emily Roberts; and brother to Nancy (Ken) Smith. Les was preceded in death by his parents, David and Margaret Darvas.

The family will receive friends at DONLON FUNERAL HOME, 15478 TRISKETT RD, CLEVE., on Tuesday, July 2 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm Sunday, July 7, at Christ United Methodist Church, 3625 W. 138th, Cleveland, 44111. The family respectfully requests that any donations go directly to Christ United Methodist Church, the host church of Troop 178, rather than to the Boy Scout office. 

Marcelline Sparano

We are heartbroken to share our beautiful grandma, Marcelline Sparano, passed away on Father’s Day, joining our grandpa, James Sparano, her one true love, in heaven. My grandpa died young, and she lived 40+ years on her own, serving as the glue that held our family together.

She raised 5 children, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many, many grand-dogs. She spoiled her grandchildren rotten, breaking all the rules from our parents, and getting us whatever we wanted, no matter the time of day. She accepted all of us EXACTLY as we were and was resentlessly on our side in all situations. We could tell her anything or nothing and she would listen, even the stupid mistakes and craziest stories. She loved us despite it all and was sure to tell us that every time we said goodbye. We sent her off to heaven the same way.

In our grandmother’s honor, we will always remember:

Jerold Evans

Jerold Evans (age 65) passed away peacefully at the home of his beloved aunt Linda Gersdorf. Loving father of Connor Evans. Beloved son of the late Beverly Dennerll (nee Gersdorf) and Jerold D. Evans. Cherished brother of Todd Evans (deceased), Kathy Kramer (Dale), Karen Davis, Patty Homish (Tom). Dear uncle, cousin and friend of many.

Jerry’s personality brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered and his passing will be mourned deeply by everyone who knew and loved him. Jerry’s memory remain will in the hearts of those who were honored to have the privilege of knowing him.

Jerry loved cooking, nature and music, but his greatest passion was fishing.

Daniel J. Cavoli

In Loving Memory of Daniel J. Cavoli

Mr. Daniel J. Cavoli, beloved son of the late Hugh and Janice Cavoli (nee Allwine), brother of Clare Lopez, Mary, John (Kirk Helmstaedter), Terri, and the late Robert Cavoli, cherished nephew of Sr. Francis Allwine, O.S.U., and uncle of Jennifer (Marco) Robinson, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024. He was 66 years old.  
Daniel was a 1976 graduate of Saint Ignatius High School and was valedictorian of his graduating class at the College of the Holy Cross in 1980, where he majored in Classical Languages.  He was a devoted Latin teacher who worked in Catholic education for over 40 years, most recently at St. Edward High School where he served as a faculty member since 1989. In 2004, he was named the Ohio Latin Teacher of the Year and in 2005 St. Edward High School was honored as the top Latin program in Ohio, in large part due to his excellence and enthusiasm.  In 2015, Daniel was honored with the prestigious Kraft Award for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching.
Daniel’s intelligence was matched only by his desire to support the spiritual and academic development of his thousands of students and to walk side by side with his colleagues. His love of language was the way he authentically connected to so many people. Legend has it that he spoke 28 languages, and he'd often jump between them with ease when meeting someone from a culture different than his own, more often than not at one of the many ethnic restaurants in the area where the staff seemed to always know him by name.  When engaged in a conversation with Daniel, he made sure that you knew you were the most important person in the world.

Daniel was an exceptional artist and musician. He earned an MFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and his commitment to perfection and attention to detail fueled his creation of beautiful artwork. He loved art history and would happily discuss art in any style. Classical music poured from his classroom and his car radio was always set to WCLV. Daniel was a member of the St. Christopher Church choir and a regular cantor at weekend masses.

One of Daniel’s greatest impacts was through the Wilderness Retreat Program which he founded in 1987 while teaching Latin at St. Ignatius High School.  Up to eight times a year, Daniel led groups of students on multi-day backpacking trips to bond with each other and experience God in His “first and finest Cathedral” -- the wilderness.  Daniel's incredible memory allowed him to readily recall the name of every retreatant (or WilderVet as he called them), as well as the exact retreat they attended and its location. Beautiful photographs of these trips adorned his classroom.  Through the Wilderness Retreat and his example of selfless generosity Daniel had a hand in the faith formation of thousands of individuals, and the program continues to impact students at both St. Ignatius and St. Edward today. 

During his illness, Daniel’s impact was apparent in the overwhelming outpouring of support from family, friends, and generations of former students and retreatants.  Even in the later days when sickness made it hard for Daniel to speak beyond a whisper, he conveyed his gratitude at a life well lived with the simple words:  “I’ve been so blessed.”   Indeed, we have all been so blessed to have had Daniel in our lives.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, May 4 at 11:00 am at St. Edward High School, 13500 Detroit Ave., Lakewood. Private Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.

James P. Lipker

James “Jim” P. Lipker of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on April 14, 2024, at the age of 91. Born October 17, 1932, in Ironton, Ohio to the late Harold and Ruth Lipker. He was also preceded in death by his wife Grace Lipker in 2001, and son James W. Lipker (Lisa) in 2018. Jim is survived by his children Paula “Sue” Umlauf (Bill), Tom Lipker (Janda), Joe Lipker and Ann Hinton (Kevin). His grandchildren Jamie (Sean) Potts, Tyler Lipker (Emily), Katie Lipker (Michael), Jimmy Hinton, Rebecca Christian-Lipker (Derek) and Thomas Lipker. Jim recently became a great grandpa to Thomas Joseph (TJ) Potts from California and was able to see him in pictures prior to his passing.

Jim served in the Air Force during Korea and was stationed in Japan. He was proud to be a veteran, and could always been seen wearing his Air Force hat. He worked and retired from PPG Industries (Cleveland Location) and Seibert Powder Coating.

The family would like to Thank the staff and friends at the Danbury (Broadview Heights) Assisted Living for their kindness and care he received. Along with the friends he has made throughout his 91 years.

Services and Burial will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve NationaCemetery in Rittman Ohio on April 22, 2024, at 9:15 a.m.

Calvin E. Aldridge

Calvin Eugene Aldridge III was born December 2, 1999 in Springfield, Ohio and was killed when he was hit by a car on April 5, 2024. As a young child he loved saying hello to everyone and singing with his mother.  At age 3 he was wrongfully removed from his mother and endured the trauma of many moves and losses due to the injustices of the child welfare system. During those years he also loved and was loved by many caregivers and families. Throughout Calvin was able to maintain an unquenchable optimism and joy that showed through to all.   At 15 he connected with the Gadomski Littletons and at 18 they decided to formalize the relationship through adoption.  He graduated from Cleveland Heights-University Heights in 2018 on time, an incredible feat given the many places he had lived and schools he had attended. 

Calvin was talented in writing music, drawing, and basketball. He loved singing and dancing. He collected mentors and could find someone to talk to everywhere he went.  People were drawn to his incredible resilience, kindness, and sparks of joy.  He was incredibly brave— opening himself up to new experiences, people, and relationships despite all the hurt in his past. He had an abiding faith that he was loved by God. 

Calvin was preceded in death by his brother Kadar Aldridge and grandfather Michael Gadomski. Calvin is survived by his parents, Sharonda Aldridge and Jared and Danielle Gadomski Littleton; siblings, Rakerm Aldridge, Shyaneia Rogan, Lataisha Aldridge, Demetrius, Jaymir, and Demonta Wells, and Elijah and Micah Gadomski Littleton; and many beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

Calvin will have a private funeral and burial in Springfield, Ohio.  In addition, calling hours will take place on Friday April 19th from 5-7 pm at Christ United Methodist Church (3625 W. 138th St).  A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 20th at 10 am at Christ United Methodist Church.  The service will be streamed at https://www.youtube.com/user/ChristChurch75.

Edward Francis Burke

Edward Francis Burke (1957- 2024)

Edward Francis Burke, 66, passed away on April 8, 2024. A devoted Catholic and proud Marine, cherished uncle, brother, and friend. Edward was celebrated for his good humor, and generosity. His legacy of kindness and compassion are exemplified by his impassioned conversations,  commitment to service and the love for his St. Bernard Show dogs.

Born in Garfield Heights, Ohio, to John and Irene Burke, Edward dedicated his life to service, first in the Marine Corps and later through his work at the post office and various volunteer efforts.

He is lovingly remembered by his parents, John and Irene; brother, Jim; sisters, Marian (Thomas Young), Kathy (Jeff Gosciniak), and Christine (Larry Burgess); and his adored nieces and nephews, Katy ,Matthew, and Anthony Guinta, Daniel Young, Elizabeth, Marianne, and Joan Gosciniak, Nicole, Dorothy and Carol Burgess.

Edward's life was a beacon of generosity, kindness, and love. While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the immense joy and positive impact he brought to our lives. His legacy will forever inspire us.

Mary Uhlik

Mary Margaret Uhlik was Born February 25, 1956 passed away at age 67 at Medina Hopsital on December 18 at 3:43am due to COVID-19. by her side was her daughter Elizabeth Bell and Son-in-law Larry Bell Jr. Mary was born in Cleveland Ohio to a Frank and Veronica Uhlik. Where she was raised and went to school and graduated at St. Mel's Catholic School. She graduated class 1971. She moved to Phoenix Arizona and where she loved to be. She feel in love with a Native American and had a daughter. Mary was always in love with the Native American culture. Mary loved to travel, she visited almost all of the United States.  She also loved to write songs, movies and  draw. She had songs made it (Why I Get This Way and Just Be A Friend). Mary also loved to go ghost hunting. But most of all she loved her daughter and granddaughters and her animals. Mary loved having her granddaughters over and teaching them how to cook and taking them for a drive through the Cleveland Valley. She loved spending time with family and friends. Mary is preceded by her Father and Mother Frank and Veronica Uhlik, Older Sister Carol Uhlik, Older Sister Veronica Uhlik, Husband William Jold, Brtoher-In-Law Jimmy Lytle. Mary leaves behind Daughter Elizabeth (Jold) Bell Age 35 and Son-in-law Larry Bell Jr. Age 36 and Two Granddaughters Ruth Bell age 12 and Leona Bell Age 9 and Stepson Andrew Urmos Age 15, Sister Janet Lytle and Brother Geg Uhlik. Irene P Kane

Irene Patricia Kane, 103, wife of the late Joseph Blair Kane, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 1, 2024. Irene is survived by her children: Patricia Mohar (John), Susan Yoder (David), and Gloria Ditzler. Her grandchildren, John Mohar(Jacqueline), Annette Carl(deceased), husband Michael, Frank Mohar(Nicole), Thomas Mohar(Nancy), Kathy Bass(Anthony), Maria Switzer(Matthew), David Yoder(Megan), and Patrick Ditzler(Molly). She is survived by 24 great-grandchildren and 5 1/2 great-great grandchildren. Nancy E. Jones

Nancy E. Jones age 90 of Bay Village passed away on March 13, 2024. Devoted wife of D. Brough Jones (deceased) for 57 years. Loving mother of David (Fayette) of Overland Park, KS and Gordon (Julia) of Avon. Dear Nanny of Matthew, Ryan, Katie, and Nick. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. Dr. Christine Newton

It is with profound sadness that family and friends announce the untimely passing of Dr. Christine (Chris) Newton on February 10, 2024, from a short, but valiant, fight against cancer.

Born April 21, 1943, in Vallejo California she was the youngest daughter of Miles C. and Margaret R. Newton. After Margaret’s passing, Miles remarried Ms. Elizabeth (Lou) Newton (Hafford) She then spent most of her childhood in Fremont, OH, with her 2 youngest brothers, where she graduated in 1961 from St. Joseph Catholic Central High School.

Upon graduation, she went to University of Detroit where she successfully studied Dental Hygiene and practiced in the Detroit area and Okemos, Michigan. In the early 1990’s, she decided to further her education by attending Dental school at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1994 with her D.D.S. Dr. Newton went on to have a successful dental practice of her own in Rochester Hills, Michigan for over 20 years, retiring at the age of 73.

Dr. Newton leaves behind two loving daughters Dr. Elizabeth Hankins (Trish Hendy) and Jessica (Paul) Melson (Hankins), and “Nana” to 2 granddaughters, Audrey (20) and Maura (15) Melson and many beloved grand fur babies.

She is also survived by her siblings, John (Nancy) Newton, Richard (Sharon) Newton, Roger (Jamie) Hafford and her only sister Marta (Hank - deceased) Wold (Newton) along with a plethora of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and her dear friend Charlotte Partlow.

Dr. Newton found much pleasure in reading broadly, and in sharing books with her friends, family and especially her cousin Mary Lynne O’Brien. She was a private and quiet person, but also loved to travel and have new experiences! She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive with a philanthropist heart, supporting everything from Democratic campaigns around the country to being a major donor to The Lakewood Orchestra Program, helping numerous students realize their dreams.

Mom, everyone you left in this world hates that you are gone, but we are happy that you were welcomed into heaven, now free and without pain. We will always love and miss you until we can meet again.

We are in the process of preparing our mother’s celebration of life over the 4th of July weekend in Cleveland, Ohio. A memorial mass will be held on July 6, 10am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 15800 Montrose Ave, Cleveland Ohio.

John Alan McLelland

John Alan McLelland (43) was born July 7, 1980 and passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Tressa (Terri) & Henry Fleming, Mary (May) & John (Al) McLelland and by his mother Victoria Fleming. He is survived by his father Lorne McLelland, sister Catrina Morales (Andy) and Sebastian, brother Colin (Natalia), Sebi & Stella, Ashley Busler and daughter Madilynn and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was especially close and doting on his daughter Maddie. John’s good nature sincere caring made everyone around him comfortable especially with his humor and laugh. He leaves a void for all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 17 2:00 pm at Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 14502 Detroit Ave., Lakewood.

Albert L. Fleming

Albert (Al) Lee Fleming (75), went home to be with the Lord on Saturday February 10, 2024. Albert was born on November 27, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Robert and Betty (nee Spaulding) Fleming. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnathan, George, Richard, Alonzo and sister Debra. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Gloria (Zangla) whom he married on July 10, 1969. He is survived by sisters Barbara (Bryant), Donna, Patricia, Margaret Davis, and brothers Edward, David, William(Billy). He was a loving son, brother, cousin, friend, brother-in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Al leaves behind his devoted sister-in-law Mary Shulsky and brother in-law Tom Shulsky. Preceding him in death is his sister-in-law Marie Zangla and his beloved mother-in-law Ruby Zangla (of Vestaburg, PA). Al leaves behind 2 beloved nephews and nieces Tommy (wife Erica )Shulsky and their children ( Erigan, Sebastian and Branson Shulsky ) and Todd (wife Jacque ) Shulsky and their children (Lawson and Lana Shulsky ).

Al worked at The Variety Theater, Joseph & Fiess, and Union Carbide (Eveready Battery) for 19 yrs. and retired.

All Services will be PRIVATE.

Rosemarie Candow


Rosemarie Greskowiak Candow, passed away peacefully at her home, January 22nd, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.

She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Patrick Candow, and is survived by her children Rose (Tom), Donald Triesel (Sarah), Patrick (Sue), Niki Canoyer (John), Joe (Sarah), and Steve (Leanne), 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Antoinette McGroder, brother Edward (Nancy), sister Jeanette Valentino and brother Anthony (Michele). She was predeceased in death by her parents, Edward and Rose (Panasiti) Greskowiak.

Rosemarie was a pillar in the community. Always willing to donate to local organizations, churches and the CPD.  She was highly creative and able to turn anything into beautiful works of art. Never one to miss an opportunity to share a cup of coffee, lively conversation, and a good laugh, countless people came to know her over the years.  Rose loved her family, friends, and pets with all her heart. She will deeply miss her beloved best friends Lynn and Sally.

The family will receive friends at Donlon Funeral Home, 15408 Triskett Rd, Cleveland, Ohio on Monday, January 29th from 4 pm to 8 pm. There will be a funeral mass on her behalf at 10 am Tuesday, January 30th at St. Lukes Church, 1212 Bunts Road, Lakewood, Ohio.
